A small field guide to making deliberate AI visuals. Start with a clear direction, then give yourself room to experiment.
Choose one subject, one action and one setting. Then describe the camera and light. Concrete choices give the generation a direction you can judge.
A lone astronaut walks through an abandoned laundromat. Static wide shot, eye level. Cold fluorescent light, pastel machines, gentle haze. Quiet, cinematic, restrained.
Exercise: keep the subject fixed. Change only the light, then compare the mood.
When your tool supports reference images, use a clear, consistent character reference. Describe the features that matter and avoid changing the outfit, age and camera angle all at once.
One clear portrait. One full-body view. Consistent lighting. A short note describing the outfit and defining features.
Exercise: make three scenes with the same reference and compare face, silhouette and clothing before choosing a result.
For a short video, give the subject one main action and the camera one clear move. A slow push toward a still subject is easier to evaluate than a paragraph of competing actions.
The character turns toward the distant glow. The camera slowly pushes in. Wind moves the coat. Preserve the face, outfit and room layout.
Exercise: compare a locked-off shot and a slow push-in using the same source frame.
Good taste is still part of the process.

Steal a starting point. Change the ingredients. See what happens.
An empty 24-hour diner floating above the rings of Saturn. Chrome booths, worn red vinyl, a single cup of coffee. Wide cinematic composition, soft peach sunrise through enormous windows, subtle film grain. Photoreal, calm and impossibly ordinary. No text or logos.
Use the supplied character reference. Place the character in a pristine luxury hotel lobby, still wearing their unusual outfit. Symmetrical wide composition, polished marble, warm architectural lighting. The character stands perfectly still while everyone else walks past in subtle motion blur. Cinematic editorial photograph.
Animate the supplied image with a slow continuous camera push toward the subject. Small objects begin to float gently upward. The subject remains grounded and calmly looks into the camera. Preserve identity, clothing and the environment. Smooth movement, cinematic lighting, no cuts.
